Singer-songwriter, X-Factor UK star, and YouTube sensation, Janet Devlin has announced the upcoming release of her upcoming single ‘Outernet Song,’ which will be available for digital and physical purchase and via streaming on Friday, October 7th via OK!Good Records.
Irish singer-songwriter builds on her 2015 success with the release of her upcoming single, entitled ‘Outernet Song,’ which will be made available for digital and physical purchase and streaming in North America via OK!Good Records. Featuring Janet’s distinctive vocals, her ukulele and one the catchiest choruses you’ll hear this year, ‘Outernet Song’ has all the makings of a pop classic. Dealing with our obsession with Internet and social media, the single showcases Janet’s honest and frank lyricism to great effect, and couldn’t be timelier as more and more people embark on a ‘digital detox.’
Janet began writing ‘Outernet Song’ when she was just 19 years old. She kept the lyrics written down and found herself adding to them at various points over the last few years, with more verses penned in response to some of the criticism she faced in her YouTube comments. Janet describes her experience, “I discovered negative remarks about my appearance, unkind assessments of my talents, and apparently being over the hill at age 20! I soon became pretty desensitized to it all and learnt to ignore them; but not before writing down how I felt to help me process my feelings and move on.”
With an impressive online following and successful career built on the dedication of her fans and online community, could Janet embark on a digital detox that she sings about on ‘Outernet Song’? Janet believes she can, stating “Just a small break is a window to re-evaluate. Press the pause button on the never-ending scroll and go out and do something other than waiting for notifications, emails, or likes. Then come back to the magnificent world that is the Internet and see it for what it really is.”
Born and raised in Northern Ireland, Janet first caught the public’s attention when she appeared on Series 8 of the X-Factor UK in 2011, where she was the audience’s favorite who received the most public votes for four consecutive weeks. Janet ultimately finished in fifth place, and began her career as an independent artist. In 2015, she released her acclaimed debut album, ‘Running With Scissors,’ in North America, which featured co-writes with the likes of Jack Savoretti and Newton Faulkner.
